Step-by-Step Guide for Divyangjan: Getting Your Adapted Vehicle & Driving License in India
1
Obtain Your UDID Card and Medical Fitness Certificate
Before applying for a license or buying a car, you need a Unique Disability ID (UDID).
Key Points:
Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card: Apply at the Swavlamban Card online portal. This card is your primary proof of identity for all government concessions and tax waivers.
Driving Ability Certificate: This is the most important document for your car's design. During your medical exam for the UDID, ask the government medical board for this certificate. It must list exactly what your physical limitations are and what specific changes your car needs (like a hand-controlled brake or a left-foot accelerator).
Medical Fitness (Form 1 & 1A): You will need these for your license. Form 1 is a self-filled health declaration. Form 1A must be signed by a government doctor to certify that you are physically capable of driving an Adapted Vehicle.
